Working offline

When the connection drops, zvena keeps going: what you change is saved on your device and sent by itself once you're back online. One bar at the top tells you where things stand.

Updated

The offline bar

Without a connection, every section of zvena shows the same bar:

No connection. Changes are saved on this device and will be sent automatically. zvena AI and smart suggestions don't work without the internet.

Next to it, Not sent yet counts the changes waiting on this device. When the connection is back, the number goes down as they are sent, the bar says All sent for a moment, and then it goes away.

What keeps working

  • Pages and lists you opened recently open from the device, so you can read them and keep working in them.
  • What you write and change is saved on the device first, so closing the tab or the app, or restarting the device, doesn't lose it. It waits there until it can be sent.
  • In Docs, several people can change the same page while one of them is offline: when the connection is back, the edits are merged, and everyone's text is kept.

What needs the internet

  • zvena AI and smart suggestions. Their buttons stay where they are, greyed out, with Needs the internet.
  • Design, publishing a page to the web, and importing files.
  • Pages you have never opened on this device: they aren't on it yet.

When the connection comes back

Waiting changes are sent in the order you made them, without you doing anything. If one of them can no longer be applied (say the page was deleted, or your access to it removed, while you were offline), it isn't forced through.

On each device

  • Browsers and the Android and desktop apps keep the changes on the device and send them as soon as the connection is back, while zvena is open.
  • iPhone and iPad: iOS doesn't let zvena work in the background, so changes made offline go out the next time you open zvena with a connection (see Install on iPhone and iPad).
  • Private windows forget everything when they close, including changes not sent yet. Reconnect before you close one.
  • A shared computer: what zvena keeps is stored separately for each account, and signing out removes the stored pages. What is kept on the device is described in the Privacy Policy.
