Notifications: what reaches you, where and when

zvena tells you when something needs you, in the place you'll see it first: in zvena, on your phone or computer, by email or in a messenger. Each notice reaches you once, and reading it anywhere clears it everywhere.

What you hear about

The kinds that usually need you are on from the start; the ones that only keep you informed are off until you turn them on.

Change each kind, and the ways it reaches you, in zvena's notification settings.

Where notices reach you

  • In zvena: every notice is in your Inbox.
  • Push: on each device where you turned notifications on: a browser, the Android or desktop app, or zvena on the Home Screen of an iPhone or iPad.
  • Email: when a notice is still unread on all your devices 20 minutes later.
  • Messenger: a workspace owner can post a team's notices to a channel in Discord or Microsoft Teams.

Told once, not five times

  • While you are using zvena on a device, it doesn't push to that device: you see the notice there.
  • A push goes out when a notice is still unread two minutes after it arrived, and not to a device you used in those two minutes.
  • Read a notice anywhere and it disappears from your other devices' notifications too, and the unread count on the app icon goes down.
  • Email waits 20 minutes and comes only if you haven't read the notice anywhere.
  • Quiet hours hold push and email until they end. If you want zvena AI and reminders to come through anyway, turn that on; it is off at first.

Turning on notifications on a device

  • In a browser (on a computer or Android): allow notifications when zvena asks. If you said no before, allow them again in the browser's site settings for zvena.app.
  • Android app: allow notifications when the app asks. Without Google services, install a UnifiedPush distributor such as ntfy (see Install on Android).
  • Desktop app: zvena uses your system's notifications. If they don't show, check Settings → System → Notifications on Windows or System Settings → Notifications on a Mac.
  • iPhone and iPad: only zvena added to the Home Screen can send notifications. Open it from the Home Screen and tap Enable notifications (see Install on iPhone and iPad).

On Android and in the desktop app, a notice about a mention or a comment can be marked read, or answered, right from the notification.

Private on the way

A push notification travels through your device's push service: Apple's, Google's, Mozilla's or Microsoft's for browsers and the iPhone, Firebase, Huawei, RuStore or your UnifiedPush distributor for the Android app. zvena encrypts every notification for your device alone (RFC 8291) before it leaves our server, so these services deliver it without being able to read it. A messenger you connect does receive the notice's text, since that is where you read it. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
